Female Eye Bag Removal Surgery – Blepharoplasty

No matter how much we take care of our skin, as we age we develop bags under our eyes and often hooding on the upper eyelid. Both can add years to our facial appearance.

Having the bags from under the eye and the hood from the upper eyelids removed can revitalise your face. When the excess fatty tissue and muscle are removed the skin becomes tighter, which gives the patient a younger, more youthful appearance.

Female Eye Bag Removal Consultation

The consultation itself should be with a medical professional, either a surgeon or a nurse. They will explain the nature of the procedure to you and exactly what it will involve. It is important that you make an informed decision and that you allow yourself enough time after the consultation to make a considered choice. Ensure that all surgeons are registered with the General Medical Council.

The Procedure

Upper Eyelid

A local anaesthetic is usually used for procedure although for some patients maybe sedated, the surgeon will discuss what is most suitable prior to performing the operation. The surgeon will make an incision in to the natural creases of skin that are usually around 10mm above the eyelashes. Small additional incisions maybe made into the “crow’s feet around the eye. The surgeon will remove excess skin, fat and muscle and then close the incisions using surgical glue or very fine sutures.

Lower Eyelid

The procedure for the lower eyelid is also performed under a general anaesthetic. The surgeon makes small incision near the edge of the eyelashes, after which they raises the skin of the lower eyelid up and away from the face. After which they proceed to tension the area, and cut away excess skin. The incision is then sealed using either surgical glue or very fine sutures.

Post-Procedure

The surgeon will usually keep the patient in overnight after the operation. Immediately after the operation the patient will have minor pink scarring along the lines of incisions. Bruising and swelling around the eyes should also be expected, this will fade within about seven days. The stitches around the eyes will be removed between three and seven days after the operation. Most patients are able to return to work within seven days of undergoing the operation.
