Breast Uplift
Most women find that as they age that the firmness of their breasts slowly lessens, this may also be as a result of having children, or by gaining weight and then losing it. Whatever the reason, you can be left feeling less than happy about the shape and height of your breasts.
Although your breasts may stay the same in terms of size, over time they are likely to change, they can become pendulous, they may flatten against the chest and the nipples may be less naturally erect. You may feel that the feminine lines you had when you were younger are leaving you.
Breast Uplift Surgery Consultation
A breast lift or mastopexy procedure should not be undertaken before you are fully aware of all of the facts surrounding the procedure. All clinics should offer you a consultation as a matter of course.
The consultation itself should be with a medical professional, either a surgeon or a nurse. They will explain the nature of the procedure to you and exactly what it will involve. It is important that you make an informed decision and that you allow yourself enough time after the consultation to make a considered choice. Ensure that all surgeons are registered with the General Medical Council.
The Procedure
A breast lift is a restructuring of the breast. It is not an enlargement or a reduction procedure, although you may wish to combine either, depending on your needs. The breast tissue is repositioned against the chest wall; the nipples may also be repositioned. The incisions will usually be made under the fold of skin beneath the breast, or around the edge of nipple. The surgeon will have gone through the specifics of the procedure, prior to performing the operation.
The operation is conducted under a general anaesthetic. The duration of the operation is entirely dependant on the specific requirements of the individual. Following the operation it is usual for the patient to be kept in hospital overnight and discharged the following morning.
Post-Procedure
The sensitivity of the nipple normally returns, though there maybe some loss in sensitivity during the healing of the breasts. Obviously the breasts will be greatly improved in physical appearance after the procedure; it maybe unrealistic to expect ideal breasts as a result of having the procedure.
After the operation you must follow the surgeon's instructions. You should allow up to two weeks before returning to your work. Heavy lifting and any strenuous activity should be avoided for six weeks after operation.
